  THE STORY OF AYURVEDA.

A volcanic eruption of this ancient medical system called ‘Ayurveda’ With passage of time, Ayurveda has made a significant progress and has gained a worldwide thrift and momentum. Thanks to Dr. Deepak Chopra, an endocrinologist from Harvard Medical School, who is a strong supporter of the Ayurvedic Medical System. In fact, as you read this, sophisticated/intense research is being conducted at various medical labs all across the world. U.S., France, Germany, Japan, Australia, UK, and various other advanced nations in the world have accelerated their pace to find a cure for aids, cancer and other chronic ailments; an answer to which might lie in this golden medical system called Ayurveda. The time has come for this 5000-year-old dormant Ayurvedic volcano to erupt, and bring a permanent change in our society and in the lives of countless unhealthy individuals who are in dire need of medicines. It’s about time for a medical revolution in the health care industry, promising a healthy future for our children and us.

Ayurveda is the oldest system of Medicine in the world and traces its root to ancient India (1500 B.C). The word Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words, Ayur-life and Veda-knowledge (Science) and is aptly commonly referred as ‘The science of Life.’ Life, according to Ayurveda, is a combination of senses, mind, body and Soul. It is a systematic approach which utilizes all that Nature provides to overcome the illness and by strengthening oneself, to maintain good health. The aim of Ayurveda is to give complete health and not just getting free from physical diseases. Thus, Ayurveda brings the concepts of preventive health care and health promotion.

Ayurveda may come from ancient texts, but these principals are just as applicable today in our society as they were originally recorded in India. Ayurveda is becoming increasingly popular globally because it speaks of the elementary concepts of (a) contact with nature (b) holism and (c) we are what we eat. Ayurveda provides an integrated approach to preventing and treating illness. It believes that the Mind and Body not only influence each other-they are one. There can be no mental health without physical health and visa-versa.

Ayurveda recognizes three main energies that combine to form all things in the universe. These are recognized as being fundamental to all life and are seen in the process of growth, maintenance and decay in the western sciences. Their actions are named, Anabolism and Catabolism. These energies combine in limitless ways to create the unique qualities of each individual. Ayurveda names these basic energies as :
Vata-the force symbolized by Air
Pitta-the force symbolized by Fire
Kapha-the force symbolized by Water

The quality and the relative balance of these forces determine health and disease. We need all these three energies to function in proper balance. When these three energies act harmoniously, the functions of digestion, absorption and elimination create health. Each individual has different constitution of the body because they have different proportions of there energies. The illness or diseases are manifest due to the imbalances within a person and are treated by restoring the natural balance. Ayurvedic treatment does not suppress the main symptom and create new ones as side effects of the main treatment. It is to remove the root cause and give permanent relief. In Ayurveda our whole life and lifestyle must be in harmony before we can enjoy true well-being.

With passage of time, Ayurveda has made significant progress. Modern manufacturing methods have been adopted. The introduction of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) has ensured consistence in quality and brought improvement in presentation. The standardization of raw material, quality control laboratory, microbiological controls, Research & Development has all become an integral part of the production system/ Clinical trails have further reinforced the belief in Ayurveda, the oldest medical science. The reprinting of Ayurvedic Formulary of India has given a fillip to the ‘Modern Ayurveda’. The application of modern technology has also shown that Ayurveda is far ahead of time and is based on scientific facts. Biotechnology is confirming the benefits of these time-tested herbs, the use of which has been documented and proven from generations. Ayurveda, thus lays the foundation of modern medicine and scores over it with proven efficacy and without having any side effects. Modern science is still trying to unravel the mystery of the ancient wisdom.
